Why IP DABOM

Run by a Korean patent attorney

The search criteria, including how Hangul and romanized spellings are compared, are designed by Korean patent attorney Youngbong Yoo.

When a result matters, click "Get patent attorney review" on that mark: a Korean patent attorney answers within 3 business days, and oppositions are prepared and filed by the firm.

Checked every day

Korean publications for opposition and new applications are collected every day, and the status of each tracked trademark is checked every day. When something changes, you get an email that day.

Many new Korean applications have no word-mark text in the official data yet. We read the text in the mark image with AI-based OCR, so those filings are searched too.

Keyword monitoring reports go out every 7 days, with marks in an open opposition period shown first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if my trademark has been filed in Korea?

Start a trademark search with your brand keyword and the goods or services you care about. IP DABOM searches Korean applications and publications for the same or similar names in those fields and sends you a status report, then a periodic report every 7 days.

Are Korean trademarks written in Hangul covered?

Yes, when you include them. Many Western brand names are filed in Korea in Hangul, the Korean alphabet. Enter your brand with its Hangul spelling, for example DABOM / 다봄: when a Hangul spelling is selected, its romanized spellings are searched as well, and names are compared by how they sound in Korean. A Latin-letter spelling on its own does not search Hangul spellings. If you are not sure how your brand is written in Hangul, use "Ask a question" and we will help. How Hangul spellings work

What if a Korean mark has no English shown?

We show English for Hangul marks wherever public records support it: the English text in the same application (shown as fact), the same applicant's other filings (shown as likely), and otherwise how the Hangul reads under the official Korean romanization rules. Coined or invented spellings often cannot be traced from public records. If no English is shown, or you need the meaning or the likely original of a mark, click “Ask us” next to it and we will reply by email. For a legal opinion, use “Get patent attorney review”.

Is this a trademark watch service?

Yes. What is often called a trademark watch, we provide as Korea trademark monitoring: we compare new Korean trademark filings and publications with your keywords, send you a report, and track the status of the trademarks you save, with an email when something changes.

Will I be told when an opposition period opens in Korea?

Yes. In Korea, anyone may file an opposition within 30 days from the date a trademark application is published (Article 60(1) of the Korean Trademark Act). Reports flag published marks and show the remaining days, and tracked trademarks trigger an email when they are published for opposition and when the opposition period has ended.

Who can see my search terms and reports?

Your keywords, goods and reports are encrypted and locked again with a passphrase that only you set. The passphrase is not sent to our server, and your keywords do not appear on the admin screen, in emails or in logs. Only items you choose to send with "Get patent attorney review" are shared with the patent attorney.

Can a Korean patent attorney review the results or file an opposition for us?

Yes. Reports are machine results. For any mark, click "Get patent attorney review" and a Korean patent attorney answers within 3 business days. Oppositions and third-party information submissions are prepared and filed by ESUNG IP&LAW FIRM.

What does IP DABOM cover?

Korean word marks (Hangul and Latin letters): applications and publications for opposition, plus the examination status, registration and expiry date of the trademarks you track. Monitoring of US and Japanese filings is in preparation.

What do I need to sign up?

Only an email address. There is no password: you log in with a six-digit code sent by email. During the beta you can run up to 3 keywords and track up to 3 trademarks.

Trademarks published for opposition: if no opposition is filed within 30 days from the publication date, the mark proceeds to registration (Article 60(1) of the Korean Trademark Act) / reports show the marks in that 30-day period
